EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN
 

CERTIFICATION:  Applicants are required to possess a current Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B) Certification valid in New Jersey. Please ensure to provide details of your license on your application. Failure to indicate possession of a current license as of the closing date will result in ineligibility. You may be required to provide a copy of a valid license upon appointment.

NOTE: Applicants who possess the higher-level certification as a Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic, or Mobile Intensive Care Registered Nurse Certification, issued by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, are considered to have met the above certification requirement.

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS RESPONDER

Applicant must show completion of: Eight (8) hour Level 2 First Responder Operations training course.

Course must be in compliance with any one of the following: National Fire Protection Association 471 standard; revised NFPA 472 standard; 473 standard; New Jersey State Police Office of Emergency Management Occupational Safety and Health Administration Regulations 29 CFR 1910-1206 (q) 6ii United States Department of Transportation

Please upload proof of course completion with your application.  Failure to do so will result in ineligibility.

NOTE: Appointees may be required to have completed an eight (8) hour Level 2 Emergency Medical Operations training course, at the discretion of the Appointing Authority.

NOTE: Appointees will be required to attend training for additional certifications within one year of appointment.  Such training may include but not be limited to: NFPA 1001, Basic Firefighting or equivalent New Jersey Emergency Medical Technician Certification or equivalent.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Appointees must be able to respond to hazardous materials emergencies (as required by the employer).

Appointees will be required to carry a personal paging device and must be able to respond to hazardous materials emergencies on a 24 hour, 7-day a week basis.

Appointees will be required to participate in the department's medical surveillance and physical fitness conditioning program pursuant to OSHA Regulation 29 CFR 1910-120 (f).

LICENSE: Appointees may be required to obtain a special driver's license from the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission tooperate the type of vehicles assigned to the program within six (6) months of being hired.

Appointees will be required to possess a valid New Jersey driver's license.
 
NOTE: The responsibility for ensuring that employees possess the required motor vehicle license, commensurate with the class and type of vehicles they operate, rests with the Appointing Authority.

In accordance with Public Law 2010 c. 26, Veterans pay a reduced application fee of $15.00 if they have previously established Veteran's Preference with the DMAVA (as defined by NJSA 11A:5-1 et seq). Those claiming Veteran’s Preference but have not yet received approval from DMAVA must pay the full application fee and may request a refund if the claim is approved at least 8 days prior to the issuance of the eligibility list.
