BIOLOGIST MOSQUITO EXTERMINATION
DEFINITION:
Under direction in a County or Municipal Mosquito Control Program, performs
laboratory and field work that requires the application of biological and closely
related principles and techniques; performs other related duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Organizes and develops a mosquito surveillance program to determine
effectiveness of the mosquito control program.
Performs laboratory work involved in the identification of larval and adult
mosquitoes.
Performs laboratory field work involved in assessing the efficiency of
various mosquito control techniques.
May apply approved chemical and biological controls, using the
appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Tests mosquitos for viral content.
Uses biometric techniques to develop mosquito control programs.
Prepares various types of reports using statistical methods.
Provides guidance and assistance to staff and others involved in the
work of the unit.
Prepares and maintains essential records and files.
Will be required to learn how to utilize various types of electronic and/or
manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or
related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's
degree in one of the biological sciences, or a bachelor's degree in an
interdisciplinary field such as Environmental Science, Environmental
Studies, Entomology, or Natural Resource Management supplemented
by twenty-one (21) semester hour credits in biology or one of the
biological sciences.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in
New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee
mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the principles, procedures, and methods of biological
science.
Knowledge of statistical methods.
Ability to organize assigned biological work.
Ability to analyze field and laboratory problems.
Ability to develop appropriate work methods.
Ability to provide guidance and assistance to staff and others involved
in the work of the unit.
Ability to give assignments and instructions to employees.
Ability to prepare clear, accurate, and informative reports containing
findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
Ability to prepare and maintain essential records and files.
Ability to learn how to utilize various types of electronic and/or
manual recording and information systems used by the agency,
office, or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English
Sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign
Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of
communication.
