Job Specification

 LAWN MOWER REPAIRER

 DEFINITION:

 Under  direction,  performs  work  involved  in  overhauling  and
 repairing mowers and mower assemblies; work is performed on  gang
 mowers, hand mowers, and golf green mowers, rotary and reel type;
 grinds  and  sharpens reels, knives, and blades;  installs  mower
 assembles onto tractors and power units; steam cleans and  paints
 mower assemblies; does related work as required.

 NOTE: The definition and examples of work for this title are for
 illustrative  purposes only.  A particular  position  using  this
 title   may   not  perform  all  duties  listed   in   this   job
 specification.  Conversely, all duties performed on the  job  may
 not be listed.

 EXAMPLES OF WORK:

 In  the  garage and in the field, performs maintenance and repair
 on all mower assemblies.

 Repairs  and  replaces reels, bed knives, tires, rollers,  seals,
 bearings, transmissions, and other related parts.

 Operates  grinding  and lapping machines to  sharpen  reels,  bed
 knives, and rotary blades.

 Installs mower assemblies onto tractors and power units.

 Steam cleans and paints mowers.

 Keeps records of all repairs and orders, materials, and supplies.

 Will  be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
 and/or  manual  recording and information  systems  used  by  the
 agency, office or related units

 REQUIREMENTS:

 EXPERIENCE:

 One (1) year of experience in the installation, maintenance,
 and  repair of varied types of mowers, mower vehicles, and  
 other mechanical equipment.

 LICENSE:

  Appointees  will be required to possess a driver's  license
 valid  in  New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle,  rather
 than  employee  mobility, is necessary to perform  the  essential
 duties of the position.

 KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 Knowledge  of  varied types of mowers and related  equipment  and
 their operation.

 Knowledge  of  methods and procedures of diagnosing  reasons  for
 mechanical  failure  and  the  steps  necessary  to  correct  the
 condition.
 Knowledge  of  methods  and  procedures  of  obtaining,  storing,
 recording, safeguarding, and properly using equipment, materials,
 and supplies.

 Knowledge  of  methods  and  procedures  of   keeping   necessary
 records and files.

 Ability to analyze mechanical problems.

 Ability  to  organize  assigned work and develop  effective  work
 methods.

 Ability to do mechanical work in the garage and in the field.

 Ability  to  obtain, store, record, safeguard, and  properly  use
 equipment, materials, and supplies.

 Ability to keep necessary records.

 Ability  to  learn to utilize various types of electronic  and/or
 manual  recording  and information systems used  by  the  agency,
 office, or related units.

 Ability  to  read,  write, speak, understand, or  communicate  in
 English  sufficiently  to perform the duties  of  this  position.
 American  Sign  Language or Braille may  also  be  considered  
 as acceptable forms of communication.
