Job Specification

 MAINTENANCE REPAIRER WELDER

 DEFINITION:

 Under  direction, performs a variety of routine  general  welding
 work  and  less  difficult general maintenance and repair  tasks;
 does  electric and/or acetylene welding and burning;  does  other
 related duties as required.

 NOTE: The  examples of work for this title are for illustrative
 purposes  only.  A particular position using this title  may  not
 perform all duties listed in this job specification.  Conversely,
 all duties performed on the job may not be listed.

 EXAMPLES OF WORK:

 Primarily  does  electrical and acetylene welding,  burning,  and
 cutting of metals in the maintenance and repair of equipment made
 of   cast  iron,  aluminum,  brass,  silver,  solder,  and  other
 materials, and steel or wrought iron structures.

 Cleans tools and equipment.

 Works from simple sketches or drawings.

 Keeps records.

 Performs a variety of other maintenance and repair tasks.

 Will  be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
 and/or  manual  recording and information  systems  used  by  the
 agency, office, or related units.

 REQUIREMENTS:

      EXPERIENCE:

      One  (1)  year of varied experience in welding  which  shall
 have included oxyacetylene and arc welding and cutting.

      LICENSE:

      Appointees  will  be required to possess a driver's  license
 valid  in  New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle,  rather
 than  employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties
 of the position.

 KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 Knowledge  of  standard  tools,  materials,  methods,  practices,
 occupational hazards, and safety precautions involved in  welding
 and general maintenance work.

 Ability  to understand, remember, and carry out oral and  written
 directions.

 Ability to take safety precautions in performing the work.

 Ability to obtain, store, safeguard, distribute, and properly use
 equipment, materials, and supplies.

 Ability to maintain records.

 Ability  to  learn to utilize various types of electronic  and/or
 manual  recording  and information system  used  by  the  agency,
 office, or related units.

 Ability  to  read,  write, speak, understand  or  communicate in
 English  sufficiently  to  perform the duties  of  the  position.
 American  Sign  Language or Braille may also be considered
 as acceptable forms of communication.
