Job Specification

 OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY AIDE

 DEFINITION

 Under direction performs routine, repetitive, nonprofessional work of 
 a specialized nature in an occupational therapy program; does other 
 related duties as required.

 NOTE: The examples of work for this title are for illustrative purposes 
 only.  A particular position using this title may not perform all duties 
 listed in this job specification.  Conversely, all duties performed on 
 the job may not be listed.

 EXAMPLES OF WORK:

 Conducts a program of activity involving routine, repetitive, 
 nonprofessional work of a specialized nature in an occupational 
 therapy program.

 Organizes assigned work activities for patients.

 Teaches necessary skills to patients and monitors their work.

 Maintains established standards of performance and work output.

 Reports on attendance, work output, and patient response to activity,
 for review by a professional occupational therapist.

Transports patients to Occupational therapy area.
 
Maintains cleanliness and order within the unit.

 Maintains equipment in proper operating condition.

 Maintains essential  records and files.

 Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
 and/or manual recording and information systems used by
 the agency, office, or related units.

 REQUIREMENTS:

 EXPERIENCE:

 One (1) year of experience in work involving the custody and care 
 of patients or in occupational therapy work.

 NOTE:  Satisfactory completion of twelve (12) weeks of training in 
 principles and methods of occupational therapy may be substituted 
 for the indicated experience.

 LICENSE:

 Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in 
 New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee
 mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

 KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 Knowledge of the goals of occupational therapy.
 
 Ability to instruct patients and maintain their participation in 
 activities.

 Ability to maintain harmonious work relationships with professional
 and nonprofessional personnel, patients, and others interested in 
 the program.

 Ability to present facts, comments, and observations in an effective
 manner, both oral and written.

 Ability to exercise sound judgment.

 Ability  to  prepare  clear,  sound,  accurate,  and  informative reports 
 of activities containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

 Ability to maintain essential records and files.

 Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording
 and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

 Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English
 sufficiently to perform duties of this position.  American Sign
 Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of
 communication.
