Job Specification

 PHYSICAL THERAPY AIDE

 DEFINITION

 Under  close supervision, performs subprofessional tasks involved
 in   assisting   a  physical  therapist  or  physical   therapist
 assistant; does other related duties as required.

 NOTE: The  examples of work for this title are for illustrative
 purposes  only.  A particular position using this title  may  not
 perform all duties listed in this job specification.  Conversely,
 all duties performed on the job may not be listed.

 EXAMPLES OF WORK:

 Transports patients to/from physical therapy treatment area.

 Assists patients to dress, undress, and put on treatment clothing
 and aids.

 Assists physical therapist to position patients in, at, or on
 equipment, devices, or treatment tables.

 Assists therapist to support patient during ambulation and gait
 training to prevent injuries from falls.

 Obtains equipment/materials/supplies from storage areas and
 positions them appropriately for use.

 Maintains equipment and working area in clean/orderly condition.

 Keeps records pertaining to equipment/supplies.

 Will  be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
 and/or manual recording and information systems used by
 the agency, office, or related units.

 REQUIREMENTS:

      EXPERIENCE:

      One (1) year of experience assisting in the care of
 individuals in a medical setting.

      LICENSE:

      Appointees  will  be required to possess a driver's license
 valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather
 than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties
 of the position.

 KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 Knowledge of methods of working with a variety of patients.

 Ability to work with a variety of patients, some of whom may
 be in a disturbed condition.

 Ability to work with the realization that errors may have serious
 consequences for patients.

 Ability to deal gently/sympathetically with patients.

 Ability to detect unfavorable reactions.

 Ability to work under close supervision and to follow  standard
 procedures and detailed instructions.

 Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual
 recording and information systems used by the agency, office,  
 or related units.

 Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in
 English sufficiently to perform duties of this position.  American  
 Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as
 acceptable forms of  communication.
