PLASTERER
DEFINITION
Under direction, performs all general plastering work involved in
maintenance and application of mortars on wooden and masonry
interior and exterior surfaces; may prepare or work from
sketches, plans and specifications in accordance with building
code or accepted trade practices; does other related duties as
required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Installs, repairs, and maintains walls and ceilings.
Works from plans, sketches and specifications in accordance
with building code or approved trade practices.
Spreads plaster over lath with trowel.
Applies plaster to walls and ceilings.
Coats back surface of precast ornamental plaster with plaster
mortar and sticks or sets it by pressing it into wall or ceiling.
Performs other types of plastering work.
Inspects work in progress and completed work.
Makes time and material estimates.
Keeps needed records.
Takes lead over and gives suitable assignments to helpers.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
and/or manual recording and information systems used by
the agency, office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE:
Three (3) years of experience in plastering work involving a
variety of tasks.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license
valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather
than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential
duties of the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of problems involved in plastering work.
Knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods, practices,
occupational hazards, and safety precautions.
Knowledge of keeping necessary records.
Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written
directions.
Ability to take needed safety precautions in performing work.
Ability to obtain, store, safeguard, distribute, and properly use
needed equipment, materials, and supplies.
Ability to give suitable assignments and to establish and
maintain needed records.
Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual
recording and information systems used by the agency, office,
or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in
English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American
Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable
forms of communication.
