Job Specification

PROGRAM COORDINATOR NON-EMERGENCY TRANSPORTATION  

DEFINITION:

Under direction coordinates and performs highly responsible work involved in planning, organizing, and directing a nonemergency transportation project according to established guidelines for the jurisdiction; does other related duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates the total operation of a no-emergency transportation project.

Implements the project to ensure maximum service to individuals deemed eligible for transportation under established project guidelines.

Maintains cooperative relationships with other agencies and individuals concerned with transportation services.

Prepares and directs the preparation of reports.

Submits reports to superiors and regulatory agencies.

Establishes operating budget for project.

Plans and develops an information program to further knowledge and understanding of the nature of transporting elderly, sick, and handicapped people.

Directs the preparation of files and records.

Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

REQUIREMENTS:

NOTE: Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.

Seven (7) years of professional administrative experience in an agency operating programs in the field of transportation services.

OR

Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; and three (3) years of the above-mentioned professional experience.

NOTE: " Professional experience" refers to work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the authority to act according to one's own judgement and make accurate and informed decisions.

LICENSE:

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of principles and methods of organization, planning, management control, and supervision.

Knowledge of functions and interrelationships of state/local governments.

Knowledge of methods and procedures involved in mobilizing individuals/resources.

Knowledge of objectives of federal/state/local government nonemergency transportation projects after a period of training.

Ability to work with public/private agencies on matters relating to the transporting of people.

Ability to communicate with large/small groups through public speaking, leading discussions, and informal conversation.

Ability to write and speak effectively.

Ability to prepare clear, sound, accurate, and informative reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

Ability to evaluate programs/procedures as to their effectiveness in achieving desired objectives.

Ability to organize assigned work and develop effective work methods and to exercise independent judgment in evaluating situations and in making determinations.

Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
