Job Specification

PROJECT DIRECTOR, URBAN RODENT AND INSECT CONTROL

DEFINITION

Under direction, plans, organizes, and administers a comprehensive Urban Rodent and Insect 
Control Project; does related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: 

Plans, organizes, and administers a comprehensive Urban Rodent and Insect Control Project.

Maintains fiscal control.

Coordinates project activities with other municipal departments. 

Evaluates progress of project.

Meets with and speaks before interested community and agency groups. 

Prepares proposals for funding of project.

Prepares necessary reports for municipal, state, and federal agencies. 

Interprets funding guidelines and assures project compliance.

Develops project policies and procedures.

Participates in the selection, training, and evaluation of staff. 

Prepares correspondence and necessary research.

May be responsible for public relations including press and radio releases. 

REQUIREMENTS:

EXPERIENCE

Five years of experience in environmental sanitation or public health or insect and pest control and 
extermination work or housing or property maintenance work including one year in an 
administrative or supervisory capacity, and/or field experience in a public health agency, 
community action agency, and/or administrative experience as a director of a community social 
service agency or project.

NOTE:  Applicants who do not meet the above work experience requirement may 
substitute college education on a year for year basis.

Possession of a current and valid certificate as a commercial pesticide applicator or a commercial 
pesticide operator issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection may be 
required.

KNOWLEDGE

Considerable knowledge of public health functions, operations and principles.

Of community resources, and administrative procedures and principles. 

ABILITY

Ability to read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties 
of the position. Communication may include such forms as American Sign Language or braille.

Ability to enlist the interest and cooperation of agency and community groups in implementing a 
rodent and insect project.

Ability to organize work assignments and to supervise staff. 

Ability to speak in public and conduct conferences and workshops. 

Ability to prepare clear, accurate, and informative reports.
