Job Specification

SENIOR GOLF RANGER

DEFINITION

Under direction, coordinates and oversees the smooth operation of the golf course 
grounds; facilitates the normal pace of play on the golf course; takes the lead over 
lower level rangers or others involved in this work; does related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Addresses and enforces established rules of the course regarding dress and 
equipment usage. 

Manages the pace of play on golf course.

Directs other golf rangers in ensuring that golf course grounds are properly 
maintained and well-kept.

Takes the lead over rangers or others involved in this work.

Keeps record of member players using the golf course.

May repair golf equipment.

Assists golfers with injuries, illnesses and disputes that may occur on the golf 
course.

Takes inventory of golf supplies.

Orders supplies and equipment when necessary.

Assists the pro shop staff if needed.

Promotes facility programs and events to golfers.

May perform other duties as assigned.

Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording 
and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of experience as a golf ranger.

LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only 
if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform 
essential duties of the position.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of the game of golf and its rules.

Ability to provide excellent customer service.

Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written instructions.

Ability to learn quickly from oral explanations and demonstrations.

Ability to work harmoniously with superiors, and fellow employees.

Ability to perform routine manual operations.

Ability to prepare and maintain records and files.

Ability to walk and move/handle golf equipment.

Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and 
information systems used by the agency, office or related units.

Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English 
sufficiently to perform duties of this position.  American Sign Language 
or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
