SENIOR HOME SERVICE AIDE
DEFINITION
Under direction, provides homemaking services, which may include
non-nursing child and/or adult care, meal planning, purchase and
preparation of food; instructs clients on homemaking and home
management skills; may guide and oversee Home Health Aides
performing homemaking tasks; does other related duties.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Conducts a pre-service visit to the client's home to evaluate the
situation, discuss services and identify a service plan.
Conducts follow-up visits to determine the need for changes to
the service plan.
Provides and may oversee Home Health Aides providing homemaking
services to clients which may include non-nursing child and/or
adult care, meal planning, purchase and preparation of food.
Performs and provides instruction in daily, routine housekeeping
tasks.
Instructs clients on homemaking and home management skills.
Provides suggestions for the type and frequency of home services.
May visit the Home Service Aide to evaluate progress.
Notifies family and/or Home Service Aide of assignment changes.
Notifies Social Service Worker of changes impacting the amount or
type of services provided.
May provide training and guidance to Home Service Aides.
Maintains schedules and attendance records of in-home visits.
May evaluate performance of Home Service Aides.
Prepares reports as required.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
and/or manual recording and information systems used by
the agency, office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of experience in providing homemaking services
for a public or private agency.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license
valid in NJ only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than
employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of
the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the methods used to maintain an orderly household.
Knowledge of the techniques used to plan and prepare meals.
Ability to evaluate various household situations to identify the
type of services needed.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working
relationships with clients and co-workers.
Ability to prepare reports and maintain records and schedules.
Ability to provide guidance and instruction in routine
housekeeping and other homemaking tasks.
Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual
recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or
related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in
English sufficiently to perform duties of this position.
American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as
acceptable forms of communication.
