SENIOR MAINTENANCE REPAIRER, HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING
DEFINITION
Under direction, performs the more difficult tasks involved in the
maintenance and repair of air conditioning and heating systems
and equipment; may take the lead in a small heating and air
conditioning maintenance unit; does other related duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Repairs burners and adjusts equipment for proper operations such
as oil preheaters, oil values, gas valves, ignition parts, and air and
oil adjustments.
Repairs, installs parts for boiler operations such as low water cutoff,
safety valves, check valves, water valves, and gauges of all types.
Prepares boilers for annual inspections, and maintains oil pumps,
water feed pumps, soot blowers, and compressors.
Installs tubes, switches, and fuses and adjusts controls for
satisfactory heat.
Replaces heating control electrical cables, compressors, coils,
and motor and other refrigerating equipment units.
Assembles and connects various pipes and ducts used in
conditioning air.
May repair and/or maintain electrical heating or air conditioning
systems and equipment.
Checks condensing water in cooling towers for allergy content.
Cleans or changes air filters for air handling units.
Gives assignments to personnel.
Keeps needed records and prepares reports.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
and/or manual recording and information systems used by
the agency, office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of experience in heating and air conditioning work
involving a variety of installation and/or maintenance tasks.
NOTE: Applicants may be required to specialize in the repair
and/or maintenance of electrical heating and air conditioning
systems and equipment at the discretion of the appointing authority.
LICENSE:
Appointees may be required to possess a valid Air Conditioning
and Refrigeration Technician Certification of the appropriate level,
commensurate with the type of equipment serviced, issued under
the authority of the Federal Environmental Protection Agency.
Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in
New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee
mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods, practices,
occupational hazards, and safety precautions involved in heating,
air conditioning, and general maintenance work.
Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written
directions.
Ability to take needed safety precautions in performing the work.
Ability to obtain, store, safeguard, distribute, and use equipment,
materials, and supplies.
Ability to take the lead over employees.
Ability to maintain simple records.
Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual
recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or
related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English
sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign
Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of
communication.
