Job Specification

 SENIOR MAINTENANCE REPAIRER MASON

 DEFINITION:

 Under  direction, performs general masonry work involved  in  the
 maintenance   and  construction  of  block,  stone,   and   brick
 structures;  constructs  and repairs concrete  structures;  works
 with  various machine and hand tools common to the masonry trade;
 may  work from sketches, plans and specifications in accord  with
 the  building code or accepted trade practices; may take the lead
 in  a  maintenance  unit, and may be called on to  perform  other
 types of general maintenance work, does other related duties.

 NOTE: The  examples of work for this title are for illustrative
 purposes  only.  A particular position using this title  may  not
 perform all duties listed in this job specification.  Conversely,
 all duties performed on the job may not be listed.

 EXAMPLES OF WORK:

 Constructs  block,  stone, and brick walls,  manholes,  chimneys,
 columns,  partitions and other structures by establishing  grade,
 setting  lines,  constructing forms, determining  and  mixing  or
 supervising  the  mixing  of  cement  or  mortar,  pouring,   and
 finishing the surface, applies wood, wire, or composition lath.

 Patches,  plasters,  repairs,  taping  and  spackles  and  brick,
 concrete and wooden structures including walls and ceilings.

 Builds  or  lays  forms;  erects  scaffolding;  carries  concrete
 structures such as sidewalks and floors.

 Cleans and maintains tools and equipment.

 Paints interior and exterior masonry surfaces.

 Uses trowels, mortar pan floats, edges and levels and assures all
 tools and equipment are clean.

 May work from instructions or work orders.

 Inspects  completed  work and may take  the  lead  over  a  small
 maintenance unit.

 Keep records and files.

 Will  be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
 and/or manual recording and computerized information systems 
 used by the agency, office, or related units.

 REQUIREMENTS:

          EXPERIENCE:

            One (1) year of experience in masonry work involving a
 variety of maintenance or construction tasks.

          LICENSE:

            Appointees  will  be required to  possess  a  driver's
 license  valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a  vehicle,
 rather  than  employee  mobility, is  necessary  to  perform  the
 essential duties of the position.

 KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 Knowledge  of  standard tools, materials, methods, and  practices
 and  of  occupational hazards and safety precautions involved  in
 performing masonry and general maintenance work.

 Ability  to  understand,  remembers, and  carries  out  oral  and
 written directions.

 Ability to take precautions in performing the work.

 Ability to obtain, store, safeguard, distribute, and properly use
 equipment, materials, and supplies

 Ability to maintain essential records and files.

 Ability  to  learn to utilize various types of electronic  and/or
 manual  recording  and information systems used  by  the  
 agency, office, or related units.

 Ability  to  read  writes, speak, understand, or  communicate 
 in English  sufficiently  to perform the duties  of  this  position.
 American  Sign  Language or Braille may  also  be  considered  
 as acceptable forms of communication.
