Job Specification

SENIOR WATER METER REPAIRER

 DEFINITION

 Leads a team or other group of non-subordinates in assigned
 tasks; installs and sets-up flow meters; installs computerized 
 water meter systems and remotes; repairs meters; stops 
 water service; records meter flow readings; tests accuracy of 
 meter flows; monitors the use of materials, equipment, parts 
 or supplies; does other related duties.

 EXAMPLES OF WORK:

 Records meter flow readings.

 Tests accuracy of meter flows.

 Monitors the use of materials, equipment, parts or supplies.

 Recommends the purchase of new and replacement materials,
 equipment, parts and supplies.

 Records the use of materials, equipment, parts or supplies.

 Tests water pressure for home and main lines.

 Conducts in-service training.

 Takes the lead in administering a program, program element or
 service. 

 Installs flow meters.

 Installs computerized water meter system and
 remotes (ECR).

 Stops (discontinues) water service.

 Repairs meters.

 Calibrates meter flow.

 Will be required to utilize various types of electronic and/or
 manual recording and information systems used by the agency,
 office or related units.

 EXPERIENCE:

 Two (2) years of experience in work involving the calibration
 and testing of water meter equipment.
 
 LICENSE:  Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid
 in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than  
 employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties
 of the position.
 
 NOTE: The responsibility for ensuring that employees possess the
 required motor vehicle license, commensurate with the class and 
 type of vehicles they operate, rests with the Appointing Authority.
 
 KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 Knowledge of procedures for installing water and sewage flow
 meters.

 Knowledge of procedures for calibrating water and sewage flow
 meters.

 Knowledge of procedures for inspecting disc and chamber water
 meters.

 Knowledge of procedures for testing disc and chamber water meters.

 Knowledge of water and sewage meter mechanical components.

 Knowledge of procedures for operating propane and acetylene
 torches.

 Knowledge of water and sewage meter cleaning procedures.

 Knowledge of water and sewage meter reading recording procedures.

 Knowledge of state standards for calibrating water meters.

 Knowledge of warehousing procedures.

 Knowledge of storekeeping procedures.

 Ability to use small hand and power tools, such as wrenches,
 screwdrivers, pliers, wire strippers, drills, pipe cutters and
 other bench work tools.

 Ability to set up Disc Water Meters, Turbine Water Meters,
 Compound Water Meters, Chamber Water Meters, and
 Sewage Flow Meters.

 Ability to clean and repair Disc Water Meters, Turbine Water Meters,
 Compound Water Meters, Chamber Water Meters, and
 Sewage Flow Meters.

 Ability to perform mechanical operations involving disassembly
 and adjustment of mechanical devices and supplies.

 Ability to perform plumbing operations involving the use of
 hoses, tubing, pipe, and plumbing fixtures.

 Ability to read various meters, gauges and dials.

 Ability to schedule and organize work activities for others.

 Ability to establish goals and set priorities.

 Ability to perform electrical operations involving circuitry and
 electrical components.

 Ability to take precise measurements.

 Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual
 recording and information systems used by the agency, 
 office, or related units.

 Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate
 in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American
 Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable 
 forms of communication.
