TRAFFIC SAFETY COORDINATOR
DEFINITION:
Under direction, coordinates and monitors the traffic safety
program, collects and evaluates data on motor vehicle
accidents and investigate the causes of such mishaps to
recommend and implement measures to promote
traffic safety; does other related duties.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Conducts field investigations regarding efficacy of traffic
regulatory and control devices.
Reports to appropriate authorities relevant data pertaining to
all motor vehicle accidents involving death within the country.
Works with local and state government offices toward reduction
of traffic accidents including recommendations for improving
traffic safety and for speed zoning within the county.
Promotes and coordinates traffic safety programs in accord
with accident and traffic data.
Plans and directs safety campaigns and coordinates activities
of local traffic safety officials.
Promotes driver safety education and highway and vehicular safety
Evaluates statistics and formulates plans for improving driver
education and highway safety.
Gives speeches on traffic safety before civic and community
organizations.
Prepares clear, sound, accurate, and informative statistical
and other reports containing findings, conclusions, and
recommendations.
Maintains records and files.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
and/or manual recording and information systems used by
the agency, office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years of experience conducting field investigations
of traffic accidents in the promotion of traffic safety.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license
valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather
than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential
duties of the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the New Jersey laws, rules, and regulations
relating to modern traffic control and regulations.
Knowledge of the traffic control and regulatory problems
current in New Jersey and in the several local areas thereof.
Knowledge of the varied types of devices, equipment, and
methods used in modern traffic control systems and their
advantages and limitations under varying conditions.
Knowledge of the equipment, devices, and procedures used in
conducting investigations, surveys, and studies, including
studies of speed, driver behavior, parking, and other related studies.
Knowledge of and familiarity with modern statistical theory,
methods, and procedures.
Ability to analyze, comprehend, interpret, and apply basic traffic
control laws, rules, and regulations in accord with established policies.
Ability to make the necessary field visits, inspections, surveys,
and studies involved in the investigation and analysis of traffic
control problems.
Ability to plan, formulate, and execute a traffic safety and accident
prevention program.
Ability to secure the cooperation and assistance of local officials
in the administration of a traffic safety program.
Ability to work harmoniously with officials and others concerned
with traffic safety.
Ability to prepare clear, sound, accurate, and informative reports
containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording
and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in
English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American
Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable
forms of communication.
