WATER METER REPAIRER
JOB CATEGORY SUMMARY
A position in this job category typically tests water pressure;
tests accuracy of meter flows; repairs meters; stops water
service; cleans flow meters; records the use of materials,
equipment, parts or supplies.
CHARACTERISTIC TASKS

Records meter flow readings.
Tests water pressure for home and main lines.
Tests accuracy of meter flows.
Records the use of materials, equipment, parts, or supplies.
Writes technical, statistical, or financial reports.
Distributes materials, equipment, parts, or supplies.
Recommends the purchase of new and replacement materials,
equipment, parts, and supplies.
Verifies that quantity and type of item ordered matches invoice.
Operates a motor vehicle.
Repairs meters.
Installs flow meters, computerized water meter systems, and
remotes (ECR).
Setsup flow meters.
Stops (discontinues) water service.
Cleans flow meters.
Removes outdated materials, equipment, parts, or supplies.
Calibrates meter flow.
Arranges materials, equipment, parts, and supplies for inventory
control.
Consults with outside agencies or individuals about information
necessary for job assignments.

Knowledge of water meter cleaning procedures.
Knowledge of water meter mechanical components.
Knowledge of water meter reading recording procedures.
Knowledge of procedures for installing water meters.
Knowledge of state standards for calibrating water meters.
Knowledge of procedures for inspecting disc and chamber water
meters.
Knowledge of procedures for calibrating water meters.
Knowledge of procedures for testing disc and chamber water
meters.
Knowledge of the characteristics and use of chemical solvents for
cleaning equipment or apparatus.
Knowledge of flat, ECR, and GTR registers.
Knowledge of procedures for operating propane and acetyline
torches.
Knowledge of electronic component color codes.
Knowledge of inventory control.
Knowledge of warehousing procedures.
Knowledge of procedures for dispatching materials and equipment.
Skill in using small hand and power tools, such as wrenches,
screwdrivers, pliers, wire strippers, drills, pipe cutters, and
other benchwork tools.
Skill in operating a motor vehicle.
Ability to set up disc water meters.
Ability to repair chamber water meters.
Ability to perform plumbing operations involving the use of
hoses, tubing, pipe, and plumbing fixtures.
Ability to set up chamber water meters.
Ability to read various meters, gauges, and dials.
Ability to repair disc water meters.
Ability to set up compound water meters.
Ability to set up turbine water meters.
Ability to perform mechanical operations involving disassembly
and adjustment of mechanical devices and supplies.
Ability to write at the reading level of the targeted audience.
Ability to summarize information in written form.
Ability to take precise measurements.
Ability to collect data through questioning.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of experience in work involving the
installation of water meter equipment.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license
valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather
than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential
duties of the position.
