PROGRAM COORDINATOR SPECIAL EVENTS DEFINITION:
Under direction, coordinates, promotes, and supervises special event programs designed specifically for community, agency, or facility participation; promotes public relations within the community, agency or facility; may also manage the operation of the building used to hold these events, formulating plans for effective utilization of available funds, personnel, equipment, materials, and supplies; does other related duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Organizes, coordinates, and oversees a program of scheduling special events such as entertainment, athletic, social, civic and/or educational functions.
May be responsible for designing advertisement and/or promotional items such as brochures, handbills, posters, etc.
Performs work involved in setting up community, agency, or facility events such as entertainment, athletic, social, civic and/or educational functions.
Maintains liaison with various service organizations, churches, business organizations, and others.
May develop and supervise volunteer programs.
Interfaces with government and educational organizations to promote special events appropriate and beneficial to the community, agency or facility.
May provide assignments and instructions to individuals and to heads of several units involved in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings and grounds where special events and activities are held.
Formulates and executes plans for effective utilization of available funds, equipment, and supplies.
Prepares reports and correspondence.
Establishes and maintains essential records and files.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
NOTE: Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.
Six (6) years of professional experience in planning, developing, and supervising special events, recreational, educational, or social service programs in a community, agency, or facility settting.
OR
Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; and two (2) years of the above-mentioned professional experience.
NOTE: " Professional experience" refers to work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the authority to act according to one's own judgement and make accurate and informed decisions.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of methods and techniques involved in developing community event programs in community, agency or facility.
Ability to organize, develop, coordinate, and promote special event programs.
Ability to provide assignments and instructions to subordinates and supervise their work.
Ability to enlist the interest of concerned people and encourage their participation in organized programs.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with associates and the public.
Ability to utilize available media for dissemination and promotion of special events.
Ability to prepare reports and correspondence.
Ability to establish and maintain essential records and files.
Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
