MANAGER RIDING STABLES
DEFINITION:
Under direction, assists in the operation and administration of a
riding stable, and in maintaining a suitable string of saddle
horses; assists in supervising the riding and rental of horses by
the public; does related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Develops a program of riding instruction, horse shows, and riding
schedules to accommodate the public.
Buys and disposes of horses as necessary to maintain a suitable
selection of horses.
Supervises the care of the stable and treatment of ailing horses.
Arranges for the services of a veterinarian as needed.
Supervises the maintenance of bridle trails, riding rings, and
the physical facilities of the stable.
Orders supplies and equipment.
Interviews and recommends for appointment applicants for
employment.
Supervises the collection of fees for riding lessons and rental
of horses.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
and/or manual recording and information systems used by
the agency, office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE:
Three (3) years of experience in the management of a stable
in which horses are maintained and rented to the public, and in
giving riding instruction.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license
valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather
than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential
duties of the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of problems involved in the operation and management
of a facility, renting horses to the riding public, and offering riding
lessons.
Knowledge of the care and feeding of horses.
Knowledge of the treatment of ailing horses and of methods of
judging horses for soundness and suitability as bridle horses,
and of the market value of desirable horses.
Knowledge of equipment used in training and showing horses.
Knowledge of methods of supervising subordinates and assigning
work tasks.
Ability to ride a horse in several acceptable styles.
Ability to deal harmoniously with the public, and to assign
suitable mounts to the varying types of riders.
Ability to organize work and assign work to employees, and to
give advice and assistance when problems arise.
Ability to utilize available funds and to monitor resources for a
proper relationship between expenditures and revenues.
Ability to prepare clear, sound, accurate, and informative
reports and financial statements.
Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or
manual recording and information systems used by the agency,
office, or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in
English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered
as acceptable forms of communication.
