GENERAL MANAGE:R OF GOLF COURSES
DEFINITION
Under direction, administers a comprehensive operation
maintenance, and development program for two or more golf courses
and/or manages golf course revenue; directs employees engaged in
golf course management programs; prepares and administers the
budget; does other related duties.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Directs and may supervise the operation, maintenance, repair,
construction, and cleaning of golf courses and associated
facilities.
Develops a yearly management plan, which includes a turf program,
rebuilding program, new construction, and building, and equipment
maintenance.
Directs the operation of the Pro Shop and other shops involving
the collection of fees, merchandizing and inventory of items,
issuance of identification cards, the maintenance of records, and
the deposit of receipts.
Directs the operation of a food service facility, involving the
cleaning, preparation and serving of food, collection of fees,
and the keeping of pertinent records.
Directs and may supervise a preventive maintenance program for
motorized equipment used on golf courses.
Develops promotional and educational materials concerning,
organizes and conducts golf tournaments, and edits monthly golf
course newsletter.
Provides assignments and instruction to supervisory and/or
employees engaged in the maintenance and operation of golf
course.
Develops and implements a safety program for employees.
Issues material and supplies and supervises the maintenance of
inventories.
Provides recommendations for the construction and improvements of
golf courses.
Supervises the proper use and care of needed equipment,
materials, and supplies.
Plans, organizes, and assigns work of the organizational unit and
evaluates employee performance and conduct, enabling the
effective recommendation of the hiring, firing, promoting, and
disciplining of employees.
Prepares and administers the budget.
Prepares reports.
Maintains records of personnel, equipment, and materials, work
done, and time spent; assembles and analyzes public use data.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
and/or manual recording and information systems used by the
agency, office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate's
degree in turf management, or golf course management.
NOTE: Applicants who do not possess the Associate's degree
may substitute a certificate showing successful completion of a
two-year (2) program in golf course management from a licensed
school or other educational institution.
NOTE: A Bachelor's degree in business management or
sports management may substitute for the above education
requirement.
EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years of administrative experience involving the
management of a regulation golf course, including planning of the
maintenance, repair, and cleaning program and/or the management
of associated facilities.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the rules, regulations, practices, and procedures in
golf play.
Knowledge of the procedures used in the maintenance, repair,
construction and cleaning of a golf course.
Knowledge of the practices, and procedures used to manage a
revenue producing facility.
Knowledge of the equipment and methods used in the care and
maintenance of golf courses.
Knowledge of the specialized machinery and equipment used on golf
courses.
Knowledge of turf management procedures and techniques.
Ability to organize and conduct golf tournaments.
Ability to effectively manage the use of personnel, funds, and
equipment in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a golf
course and its facilities.
Ability to provide assignments and instructions to golf course
staff..
Ability to work harmoniously with associates, citizens and others
using the golf courses.
Ability to prepare clear, sound, accurate, and informative
reports.
Ability to maintain records and files.
Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual
recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or
related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in
English sufficiently to perform duties of this position.
American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as
