Job Specification

 SUPERVISOR LANDSCAPE

 DEFINITION:

 Under  direction, supervises and works with employees engaged  in
 landscaping; does other related duties as required.

 NOTE: The  examples of work for this title are for illustrative

 all duties performed on the job may not be listed.

 EXAMPLES OF WORK:

 Supervises work of a group of employees engaged in maintenance of
 grounds involving fertilizing, liming, and seeding of established
 and  new  lawn  areas,  mowing  and aerating  practices,  use  of
 materials  for control of weeds, mulching and removal of  leaves,
 and general maintenance practices.

 Transplants,  prunes, feeds, and sprays flowers, evergreens,  and
 deciduous trees and shrubs.

 May  take  responsibility for operation  and  management  of  the
 nursery.

 Supervises the maintenance of equipment.

 May  prepare specifications for purchase of turf supplies,  plant
 materials, and equipment.

 May assist in preparing budget and equipment requests.

 Gives assignments and instructions to employees.

 Prepares   and   maintains  records   of   personnel   and   work
 accomplished.

 Will  be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
 and/or  manual  recording and information  systems  used  by  
 the agency, office, or related units.

 REQUIREMENTS:

      EXPERIENCE:

      Three  (3)  years of experience in the planting,  care,  and
 maintenance of trees, shrubbery, plants, flowers, and grounds.

      LICENSE:

      Appointees  will  be required to possess a driver's  license
 valid  in  New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle,  rather
 than  employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties
 of the position.

 KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 Knowledge  of  problems and methods involved in  landscaping  
 and maintenance of grounds including planting of flowers, trees,  
 and shrubs.

 Knowledge  of  problems  and  methods  involved  in  caring   for
 equipment, materials, and supplies.

 Ability to direct subordinates in procedures of maintaining  care
 of grounds.

 Ability  to  provide employees with needed advice and  assistance
 when  difficult  and unusual problems arise, and to  check  their
 work  to see that proper procedures are followed, that reasonable
 standards  of  workmanship and output are  maintained,  and  that
 desired objectives are achieved.

 Ability  to  prepare  work schedules and develop  effective  work
 methods.

 Ability to obtain, store, safeguard, and use equipment, material,
 and supplies.

 Ability to maintain records.

 Ability  to  utilize  various types of electronic  and/or  manual
 recording and information systems used by the agency, office,  
 or related units.

 Ability  to  read, write, speak, understand, and  communicate 
 in English sufficiently  to  perform  duties  of  this   position.
 American  Sign  Language or Braille may  also  be  considered  
 as acceptable forms of  communication.
