SEWER REPAIRER 1
DEFINITION:
Under supervision, performs varied tasks involved in maintenance and repair of sewers and clearing stoppages in main line and home sewer connections; does other related duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Cleans storm water drains and sewer catch basins.
Repairs broken sewer lines.
Replaces worn parts.
Installs new sewer pipes.
Locates sewer drains, pipes, and appurtenances.
Inserts wire snakes or pressure hoses designed to clear stoppages in home sewer line connections.
Operates sump pumps to clear flooded basements of water.
Enters main sewers and inserts sewer rodding lines or pressure hoses.
Assists in clearing home sewer connections and main sewer stoppages by performing routine manual work.
Assists in the operation of sewer rodding or sewer dragging equipment when required.
Performs manual and unskilled labor work as required.
Maintains records and files.
Will be required to learn how to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of experience in sewer installation or repair work and/or in varied plumbing work and/or in the operation and maintenance of sewer maintenance equipment OR one (1) year of experience as a laborer in a public works department.
LICENSE:
Appointees may be required to possess a valid water and/or wastewater operator license of the appropriate class, depending on the permit level of the facility, issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. The appointing authority is responsible for the verification of the license.
Appointees may be required to possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and applicable endorsements for the class and type of vehicle being operated.
NOTE: The responsibility for ensuring that employees possess the required motor vehicle license, commensurate with the class and type of vehicles they operate, rests with the Appointing Authority.
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the methods and equipment used to repair sewers.
Knowledge of appropriate safety protocols and procedures.
Knowledge of methods and procedures used to locate and clear sewer stoppages.
Knowledge of various types of sewer repair materials and related uses.
Knowledge of sewer operational methods.
Knowledge of sewer cleaning methods.
Knowledge of sewer pipe and line installation methods.
Ability to perform tasks from oral and written instructions and by demonstration.
Ability to perform manual labor tasks.
Ability to perform routine and somewhat challenging mechanical operations.
Ability to obtain, use, store, and safeguard equipment, materials, and supplies.
Ability to maintain records and files.
Ability to learn how to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.

STREET REPAIRER
DEFINITION
Under direction, performs varied types of work involved in the repair, installation, and maintenance of streets, traffic signs, and traffic lines; does other related duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Digs trenches and does manual grading.
Oils and greases machinery and equipment of varied types.
Helps load and unload trucks.
Shovels gravel and sand.
Does cold patching.
Mixes cement and mortar.
Places forms used in concrete work.
Cleans up underbrush, foliage, vines, and weeds.
Helps cut down trees.
Repairs, installs, and maintains traffic signs and lines.
Installs drain pipes and catch basins, lays works, and paints guard rails.
Builds, repairs, and raises catch basins and manholes.
Operates, checks, services, and makes minor repairs to trucks and construction and maintenance equipment.
Uses power tools and equipment such as electric and pneumatic drills and hammers.
Measures distances from grade stakes, drives stakes, and stretches tight line.
Cleans and levels terrain with hand tools.
Spreads and levels dirt, asphalt, and other material on roadways.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Ability to learn quickly from explanations and demonstrations.
Ability to operate equipment in a skilled, safe manner.
Ability to check, clean, service, and make minor and emergency repairs.

Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
