Job Specification

EMPLOYMENT TEST MONITOR

DEFINITION:

Under supervision in a state department, institution, or agency, or in a local government agency, packages test material, travels to onsite testing locations, and performs tasks involved in the administration of various tests to candidates/test takers; assists with general test administration and scoring processes; does other related duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Explains testing procedures and instructions to applicants, candidates, appointing authorities, and others interested in the onsite testing program.

Administers tests, including reading scripted instructions and handing out material, booklets, and other items needed by the candidates.

Monitors individuals or groups while the test is in progress and the testing procedures are completed.

Answers questions concerning testing procedures and provides general information about the civil service testing process.

Collects test materials at the end of the test.

Allots selected portions of multi part tests to be taken by individual test takers.

Checks material collected from test takers to ensure instructions have been followed and required information is provided.

Checks test location, verifies compatibility of equipment, and ensures there is adequate space and equipment to meet testing needs.

Works with CSC staff and appointing authorities to coordinate scheduling of candidates and test centers.

Responsible for keeping the test area in proper order.

Demonstrates proper operation of testing equipment.

Packages test materials. After test administration, disassembles test packages and distributes materials to appropriate parties.

Ensures security and confidentiality of candidate information, test scores, and test content.

Transports test materials in a vehicle to onsite testing locations throughout the state.

Tracks, stores, and monitors test administration statistics.

Writes detailed reports of test administration activities and unusual occurrences.

Provides courteous, accurate, and timely responses to requests for information.

Accepts delivery of test materials and transports them to the test storage area.

Arranges, sorts, and organizes test storage area to ensure efficient storage and packaging for test administrations.

Maintains the essential records and files.

Will be required to learn how to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

LICENSE:

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the format of various types of employment, vocational, or aptitude tests.

Knowledge of the procedures used in administering a prepared test.

Knowledge of checking test equipment and inventory.

Knowledge of the rules and regulations regarding test security.

Knowledge of customer service techniques.

Ability to give clear and concise verbal instructions and explanations to test takers.

Ability to interact with public and provide information regarding the types of the tests being given and the equipment used.

Ability to arrange, sort, package, and store test materials.

Ability to transport test materials in a vehicle.

Ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports.

Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.

Ability to learn how to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
