Job Specification

 SUPERVISOR, BUILDING SERVICE

 DEFINITION

 Under  direction, supervises and works with a group of  employees
 engaged in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings and grounds;
 does related work as required.

 NOTE: The definition and examples of work for this title are for

 EXAMPLES OF WORK:

 Inspects, analyzes, and determines the cleaning work to  be  done
 and the materials and supples needed.

 Develops  work  plans  for  cleaning  and  maintenance  work  and
 develops effective work methods.

 Gives  assignments  to employees engaged in cleaning  maintenance
 work and supervises the performance of their work.

 Supervises  the cleaning and care of buildings, the  cleaning  of
 desks,  chairs, rugs, windows, and other furniture and  fixtures,
 the  sweeping and washing of floors, and the applying of wax  and
 polish to wooden, linoleum, and composition floors.

 May  supervise the cleaning of snow from sidewalks, mowing lawns,
 and raking of leaves.

 May supervise the work of the elevator operator.

 Obtains,  safeguards, and distributes and supervises the  use  of
 cleaning  and  general  maintenance  equipment,  materials,   and
 supplies.

 Prepares  and  maintains records of personnel,  time,  equipment,
 materials, and supplies and work completed.

 Will  be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
 and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used
 by  the agency, office, or related units.

 REQUIREMENTS:

      EXPERIENCE:

      Three (3) years of experience in work involving the cleaning
 and maintenance of furniture, fixtures, offices, and buildings.

      LICENSE:

       Appointees  will be required to possess a driver's  license
 valid  in  New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle,  rather
 than   employee  mobility, is necessary to perform the  essential
 duties of the  position.

 KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 Knowledge of problems, procedures, methods, equipment, and
 supplies used in cleaning and washing windows, polishing floors,
 and in dusting desks, chairs, and other furniture.

 Knowledge  of  methods  used  in establishing,  maintaining,  and
 developing effective work procedures used in obtaining,  storing,
 safeguarding,  distributing,  and  supervising  proper   use   of
 equipment, materials, and supplies.

 Knowledge of  the establishment and maintenance of records 
 and files of personnel, equipment, materials, supplies, work 
 done, time spent, and cost.

 Ability to analyze building cleaning problems.

 Ability  to  organize  assigned work and develop  effective  work
 methods.

 Ability to give suitable assignments and instructions.

 Ability  to  learn to utilize various types of electronic  and/or
 manual  recording  and information systems used  by  the  agency,
 office, or related units.

 Ability  to  read,  write, speak, understand, or  communicate  in
 English  sufficiently  to perform the duties  of  this  position.
 American   Sign  Language or Braille may also  be  considered  as
 acceptable forms of  communication.
