DEFINITION
Under direction, has charge of the operation, administration and maintenance of indoor ice skating arena, including non-skating events; supervises and trains assigned personnel in duties in a manner that results in effective use of facility; does other related duties.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Assigns duties to supervisors and trains subordinate personnel in operation of arena.
Develops and administers broad skating programs to effectively utilize time of arena.
Carries out public relations program as directed.
Works closely with skating and other groups in the planning of functions in the arena.
Recommend skating schedules and rates.
Prepares and submits complete reports covering operations of the arena.
Assures the proper use and maintenance of arena and all related equipment.
Recommends purchase of equipment and supplies for operation of arena, including specialized units such as the skate shop and luncheonette.
Develops and recommends operating budget for arena.
Directs operation of arena in a manner that insures correct application of established rate schedules and consistent operation with established Park Commission policies and procedures.
Cooperates with municipal, school and civic groups in the development and promotion of skating programs and stimulates interest in skating activities in the county.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years experience supervising the operation and administration of an indoor ice arena which has a part of its schedule regular public ice skating sessions and presentation of spectator events in the form of skating shows and hockey games. One (1) year of this experience may be in assisting in the operation and administration of an outdoor artificial ice rink which offers regular daily public skating sessions.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in NJ only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the problems involved in the operation and administration of an indoor ice arena.
Knowledge of developing and administering comprehensive skating programs in artificial rinks.
Knowledge of various types of skating including figure skating and hockey.
Knowledge of equipment used in making and maintaining ice skating instruction programs, development and administration and of organizing and supervising spectator events.
Ability to analyze problems of the assigned work and develop effective work methods.
Ability to give suitable assignments to subordinates and provide them with needed advice and assistance when difficult problems arise and supervise and work closely to see that proper procedures are followed.
Ability to demonstrate, teach and lead group activities.
Ability to recognize county recreational needs as related to ice- skating.
Ability to work harmoniously with employees and to maintain harmonious relationships with the public.
Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.

RECREATION SUPERVISOR SWIMMING
DEFINITION:
Under direction plans, develops, and promotes a community recreational program of swimming and water safety activities and supervises and trains the recreation leaders involved in the program; does other related work.

Plans, develops, and promotes a community-wide program of swimming activities for recreation and water safety.
Supervises, trains, evaluates, and advises assigned employees and volunteers.
Operates and maintains both indoor and outdoor swimming facilities.
Organizes and participates in promotional activities created to develop the public's interest in the swimming program.
Arranges for and directs swimming meets and other special water activity events.
Tests and/or verifies the qualifications of lifeguards and swimming instructors.
Coordinates the swimming and water safety programs with other recreation services offered in the area.
Prepares reports and press releases.
Supervises the establishment and maintenance of records and files.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
NOTE: Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.
Six (6) years of professional experience in recreation work involving the planning, promoting, development, and supervision of a recreation program involving swimming and water safety.
OR
Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; and two (2) years of the above-mentioned professional experience.
OR
Possession of a master's degree from an accredited college or university in recreation or parks and recreation management; and one (1) year of the above-mentioned professional experience.
NOTE: "Professional experience" refers to work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the authority to act according to one's own judgment and make accurate and informed decisions.
LICENSE:

NOTE: An applicant may be required to possess a valid certificate as a Recreation Supervisor issued by the New Jersey Board of Recreation Examiners.
NOTE: Applicants may be required to possess current and valid lifeguard certification issued by the American Red Cross, the Boy Scouts of America, National Pool and Waterpark, Lifeguard Training, the YMCA, the United States Life Saving Association, the South Jersey Chief's Association or other recognized organizations depending on location of employment.
NOTE: Applicants may be required to possess current and valid standard first aid certification issued by the Red Cross, the National Safety Council or other recognized organizations. For applicants to tidal and ocean water areas, certification must include a minimum of 21 hours of first aid training not including CPR training.
NOTE: Applicants may be required to possess current and valid CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) certification including adult, child and infant CPR as well as obstructed airway training issued by the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, the National Safety Council or other recognized organizations.
NOTE: Applicants may be required to possess a valid and current certification in water safety instruction issued by either the American Red Cross, the Boy Scouts of America, National Pool and Waterpark, Lifeguard Training, the United States Lifesaving Association, the South Jersey Chief's Association or other recognized organizations.
NOTE: Applicants may be required to possess valid and current certification as a trained pool operator issued by the National Recreation and Park Association, the National Swimming Pool Foundation, the YMCA or other recognized organizations.
