ASSISTANT SUPERVISING GREENSKEEPER
DEFINITION
Assists in supervising a group of workers and performs the work
involved in the maintenance of a regulation golf course and
underground irrigation system; does other related duties.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Operates and supervises the operation of equipment.
Implements planned work schedules.
Identifies maintenance assignments to be performed.
Supervises and performs the work to apply lime, fertilizers,
insecticides, and fungicides.
Supervises and performs the work to sow seeds, replace sod, weed, cut
grass, and irrigate the golf course.
Identifies and requisitions needed equipment and materials.
Provides guidance and instruction to staff, and assists in supervising
work performance.
Maintains records and files.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency,
office or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE:
Three (3) years of experience in the care and maintenance of a
regulation golf course, including the operation of an underground
irrigation system.
LICENSE:
Appointees may be required to possess a current and valid
certificate as a Pesticide Applicator, Commercial issued by the New
Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid
in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee
mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the
position.
Appointees may be required to possess a valid Commercial Driver's
License (CDL) and applicable endorsements for the class and type of
vehicle being operated.
NOTE: The responsibility for ensuring that employees possess the
required motor vehicle license, commensurate with the class and type
of vehicles they operate, rests with the Appointing Authority.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the methods used to care for golf courses.
Knowledge of the methods used to prepare soil for planting.
Knowledge of the methods used to care for specialized turf surfaces.
Knowledge of the methods used to operate and maintain equipment.
Knowledge of the methods used to apply fertilizers, insecticides and
fungicides.
Ability to perform maintenance tasks in the care of a regulation golf
course.
Ability to operate equipment used in golf course maintenance.
Ability to maintain records.
Ability to follow safety precautions in the use and care of equipment.
Ability to provide assignments and instructions and supervise work
performance.
Ability to identify maintenance assignments to be performed.
Ability to identify and requisition needed equipment and materials.
Ability to learn to use various types of electronic and/or manual
recording and information systems used by the agency, office or
related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English
sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign
Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of
communication.
