ASSISTANT SUPERVISOR, WATER METER REPAIR


   JOB CATEGORY SUMMARY

   A positions in this job category typically distributes materials,
   equipment, parts or supplies; records meter flow readings; tests
   accuracy of meter flows; calibrates meter flow; repairs meters and
   sets-up flow meters.

   CHARACTERISTIC TASKS

   Distributes materials, equipment, parts or supplies

   Records meter flow readings

   Tests accuracy of meter flows

   Inventories materials, equipment, parts or supplies

   Verifies that quantity and type of item ordered matches invoice

   Requisitions materials, equipment, parts or supplies

   Records the use of materials, equipment, parts or supplies

   Tests water pressure for home and main lines

   Calibrates meter flow

   Repairs meters

   Sets-up flow meters

   Sends (dispatches) materials and equipment to construction sites

   Installs computerized water meter system and remotes (ECR)

   Installs flow meters

   Operates a motor vehicle

   Inspects the check valve between city water and well water

   Consults with outside agencies or individuals about information
   necessary for job assignments
   CHARACTERISTIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

   Knowledge of water meter mechanical components

   Knowledge of procedures for calibrating Turbine Water Meters,  Disc
   Water Meters and Chamber Water Meters

   Knowledge of water meter cleaning procedures

   Knowledge of state standards for calibrating water meters

   Knowledge of procedures for testing Chamber Water Meters and Disc Water
   Meters

   Knowledge of water meter reading recording procedures

   Knowledge of procedures for inspecting Disc Water Meters and Chamber
   Water Meters

   Knowledge of procedure for installing Compound Water Meters, Chamber
   Water Meters, and Turbine Water Meters

   Knowledge of inventory control

   Knowledge of storekeeping procedures

   Knowledge of warehousing procedures

   Knowledge of established safety procedures and guidelines

   Knowledge of record keeping procedures

   Knowledge of procedures for operating propane and acetylene torches

   Knowledge of procedures for installing Water Meters

   Knowledge of procedures for calibrating Water Meters

   Knowledge of procedures for dispatching materials and equipment

   Knowledge of ECR register

   Knowledge of techniques for investigating compliance

   Knowledge of sewage meter cleaning procedures

   Knowledge of sewage meter mechanical components

   Knowledge of GTR register

   Knowledge of flat register

   Knowledge of sewage meter reading recording procedures

   Skill in using small hand and power tools, such as wrenches,
   screwdrivers, pliers, wire strippers, drills, pipe cutters and other
   benchwork tools
   Skill in operating a motor vehicle

   Ability to perform mechanical operations involving disassembly and
   adjustment of mechanical devices and supplies

   Ability to set up Turbine Water Meters

   Ability to set up Compound Water Meters

   Ability to set up Disc Water Meters

   Ability to set up Chamber Water Meters

   Ability to take precise measurement

   Ability to read various meters, gauges and dials

   Ability to repair Chamber Water Meters

   Ability to perform plumbing operations involving the use of hoses,
   tubing, pipe, and plumbing fixtures

   Ability to establish goals and set priorities

   Ability to perform electrical operations involving circuitry and
   electrical components

   Ability to collect data through questioning

   MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

       EDUCATION:

       No particular level or amount is required.

       EXPERIENCE:

       One (1) year of experience in work involving repairing,
       calibrating, and inspecting water meters.
