SUPERVISING PARKING ENFORCEMENT OFFICER
DEFINITION:
Under direction, supervises employees engaged in patrolling
designated areas and issuing summonses to motor vehicles in
order to enforce State, county or municipal statutes, resolutions,
ordinances or regulations related to the parking of motor vehicles
within the municipality; does other related duties.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Provides assignments and instructions to parking violation
officers and supervises the performance of their work.
Checks the condition of parking meters and informs those
responsible for repair of any meter malfunctions.
Notifies police personnel of conditions that may warrant attention.
Provides testimony in court related to issued summonses.
Writes summonses.
Prepares and supervises the preparation of reports.
Answers complaints from the public.
Supervises the maintenance of records and files.
May operate a motorcycle, motorized scooter or other motor
vehicle in the performance of duties.
May supervise arrangements for towing vehicles parked, stored
or abandoned in the municipality in violation of statute, resolution,
ordinance or regulation.
May supervise the collection costs of towing and storage from
vehicle owner or owner's agent.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or
manual recording and information systems used by the agency,
office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years of experience in enforcing parking ordinances.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid
in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than
employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of
the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the problems and procedures involved in parking
violations.
Knowledge of keeping records and reports of conditions noted
and actions taken.
Ability to provide suitable assignments and instructions to staff
and supervise the performance of their work.
Ability to provide testimony in court.
Ability to prepare reports and correspondence.
Ability to supervise the maintenance of records and files.
Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual
recording and information systems used by the agency, office,
or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in
English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American
Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable
forms of communication.

METER WORKER SUPERVISOR
DEFINITION
Supervises and works with a group of employees engaged
in the reading, repair and installation of water, parking and/or
other meters; does other related duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Supervises the reading and inspection of meters.
Sees that meter readings are properly recorded.
Establishes and develops efficient working schedules for
subordinates and supervises their work.
Makes special readings as required.
Establishes and keeps records of personnel and readings as
required.
Supervises the work operations and/or functional programs
and has responsibility for employee evaluations, and for
effectively recommending the hiring, firing, promoting, demoting
and/or disciplining of employees.
Prepares and analyzes reports of meter reading, which could
include processing and transmittal of meter-reading data with
computer software provided.
Investigates and makes reports on damages to meters, and
determines if they should be repaired or replaced.
Contacts proper authority for collecting damages, and estimates
amount due on basis of cost and depreciation.
Supervises the establishment, development, and execution
of work plans and procedures for the installation, maintenance,
repair, inspection, and removal of parking meters and/or in
work involved in collecting, counting, and depositing monies
from parking meters.
Maintains records of meters in service.
Replies to correspondence.
May maintain records of monies collected from meters.
Reviews the work performance of assigned personnel.
May prepare reports.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
and/or manual recording and information systems used by
the agency, office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE:
Three (3) years of experience in the readings, repair, or
installation of water, parking or other meters.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the proper methods of reading meter
indicators.
Knowledge of the methods of computing consumption.
Knowledge of varied types of coin regulated machines
and their operation.
Knowledge of reasons for faulty operations and of the
steps necessary to correct the condition.
Knowledge of tools and equipment used to install, remove,
repair, maintain, and adjust meters.
Knowledge of the methods used to maintain accurate
records of cash receipts and keeping of records and files.
Ability to explain the basic operation of a meter when
requested by consumers.
Ability to receive complaints from consumers and take
appropriate action.
Ability to inspect meters at places of installation and note
significant facts that may lead to malfunctioning meters.
Ability to read meters accurately and to record the
information properly.
Ability to learn quickly from oral and written explanations
and from demonstrations.
Ability to perform arithmetical computations such as adding
and subtracting.
Ability to dismantle and replace broken and worn parts.
Ability to rebuild and test meters to ensure that they are
working properly.
Ability to prepare reports.
Ability to supervise staff and evaluate the performance of
their work.
Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual
recording and information systems used by the agency,
office, or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate
in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position.
