Job Specification

SUPERVISING PLUMBER
  
DEFINITION

Under direction, supervises and works with a group of plumbers
engaged in a variety of plumbing tasks; does related work as required.

NOTE:  The examples of work for this title are for illustrative purposes only.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Inspects, analyzes, and assists in the determination of the
plumbing work to be done.

Develops effective work plans.

Gives suitable assignments and instructions to subordinates and
supervises their work.

Estimates amounts of material and types of equipment needed for
various types of plumbing work, and lays out the work.

Supervises and performs the work involved in maintaining and
repairing plumbing fixtures, piping, and equipment, and installing new
plumbing, roughing, piping, and fixtures, and in cleaning sewer and
waste lines of stoppage.

Prepares suitable reports, and keeps needed records.

May be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency,
office, or related units.

REQUIREMENTS:

EXPERIENCE:

Five (5) years of experience in plumbing work involving a
variety of plumbing tasks.

NOTE:  A valid Master Plumber's license issued by the New Jersey 
State Board of Examiners of Master Plumbers may be substituted for
(3) three years of related experience.

NOTE:  Applicants may be required to possess a valid Master Plumbers
license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Examiners of 
Master Plumbers as determined by the Appointing Authority.

LICENSE:

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license
valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than
employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the
position.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the problems, procedures, and methods used in
inspecting, analyzing, and determining plumbing work to be done.

Knowledge of the standard tools, materials, methods, practices,
occupational hazards and safety precautions in the field of plumbing.

Knowledge of record keeping procedures. 

Ability to keep necessary records.

Ability to give suitable assignments and instructions.

Ability to analyze and resolve plumbing problems.

Ability to organize assigned work and develop effective work
schedule.

Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or
manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or
related units.

Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in
English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American
Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of
communication.
