COORDINATOR CHILD DAY CARE PROGRAM DEFINITION:
Under direction, plans, develops, organizes, directs, coordinates and monitors the activities of a child day care program; does other related duties.

Manages work operations and/or functional programs, and has responsibility for employee evaluations and for effectively recommending the hiring, firing, promoting, demoting, and/or disciplining of employees.
Recruits and trains persons who will provide day care services for children in their homes.
Screens enrollees in the program to ensure they are suitable participants.
Monitors and evaluates program performance and progress.
Develops, coordinates and schedules initial and in-service training programs for people accepted into the child day care program.
Gathers information for and prepares on-going fiscal and monitoring reports for various contracting agencies.
Serves as the resource person for inquiries received concerning the child day care program.
Acts as liaison to community organizations through advisory councils and task forces regarding child care issues.
Coordinates various staff development and training programs for child day care program staff.
Assigns and supervises the work of subordinate personnel engaged in the child day care program.
Evaluates staff.
Coordinates the activities of the Child Care Food Program administered by the New Jersey Department of Education.
Maintains liaison with the New Jersey Department of Human Services and local care programs and other concerned organizations.
Compiles, correlates and reviews information regarding State and Federal funds that are available for childcare programs.
Prepares applications for grants.
Design posters, brochures, newsletters and other informative material in order to publicize the child day care program and to recruit people to provide the day care services.
Provides technical assistance to directors of child day care centers in preparing proposals and amendments to the applications for the grants.
Prepares a monthly report on the activities of the office.
Prepares correspondence and memoranda.
Reviews activities to see if programs are complying with funding regulations.
Meets with heads of child day care programs and day care centers to ascertain their needs.
Encourages parents to participate in the various activities of the program.
Prepares and submits a budget for the various programs.
Maintains records and files.
Speaks before various groups and organizations to inform them of the child day care programs.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS: NOTE: Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.
Seven (7) years of professional administrative or supervisory work experience in the providing of child care services to youngsters in an institutional or community service program or in early childhood development, training and/or education or in the providing of social work services to children and their families.
OR
Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; and three (3) years of the above-mentioned professional experience.
NOTE: "Professional experience" refers to work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the authority to act according to one's own judgment and make accurate and informed decisions.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Knowledge of the organizational and administrative procedures involved in the operation of a child day care program.
Knowledge of the subcultures in the community, particularly as they may affect the children served by the program.
Knowledge of the principles and methods of child care, child development and child welfare.
Knowledge of community organization and resources.
Knowledge of principals and methods of organization, planning, management control and supervision.
Knowledge of the methods and procedures involved in obtaining federal, state and private foundation aid.
Ability to evaluate programs and procedures.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate the work of diversified units.
Ability to exercise independent judgement in evaluating situations and in making determinations.
Ability to organize assigned work and develops effective work methods.
Ability to prepare clear, concise and informative reports.
Ability to plan and direct a comprehensive program of care and activities for a child day care program.
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with program staff, members of the community and public officials.
Ability to select, train, supervise and evaluate the performance of staff.
Ability to organize and conduct in-service training and parent education programs.
Ability to prepare and support a budget.
Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
