SENIOR REPAIRER STATIONARY EQUIPMENT
DEFINITION
Under direction, performs the more responsible and complex tasks
involved in the repair and maintenance of varied types of stationary
equipment and/or takes the lead over other workers engaged in the
repair and maintenance of varied types of machinery; does related
work as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
May take the lead over other Repairers, Stationary Equipment and
provide guidance.
Repairs and maintains a wide range of more complex machinery such as
those containing reduction gears, steering assemblies, and power transmissions.
Independently repairs and maintains the more complex machinery such as
those involving pneumatic, hydraulic, and electronically controlled systems.
Performs mechanical work on pumps, laundry machines, kitchen equipment,
and other equipment and machinery.
Inspects and determines and nature of difficulties and takes necessary action
needed to restore equipment to operating service.
Rebuilds varied types of motors and pumps.
Repairs and maintains in accord with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals,
and manufacturers' specifications, machinery and mechanical equipment
such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production
machinery and equipment using hand tools, power tools, and precision
measuring and testing instruments.
Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate
causes of trouble.
Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts using hoists,
cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements using
rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments using hand tools, levels,
plumb bobs, and straight edges.
Repairs or replaces defective parts using hand tools and power tools.
Installs special functional and structural parts in devices using hand tools.
Starts devices to test their performance.
Lubricates and cleans parts.
May set up and operate lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metal working tools
to make and repair parts.
May perform light welding duties as required.
May operate computer software in conjunction with assigned duties.
Maintains automated equipment to ensure proper operation.
Maintains essential records, reports and files.
May repair electrical equipment.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual
recording and computerized information systems used by the agency, office,
or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE:
Four (4) years of experience in repairing and maintaining a variety of
industrial type of machinery such as conveyor systems, loading machines,
injection molding machines, pneumatic and production equipment, and/or other
machinery used in manufacturing or processing operations.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if
the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the
essential duties of the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of various kinds and types of industrial type machinery and
their purposes.
Knowledge of methods and problems involved in diagnosing machinery
malfunctions.
Knowledge of tools, equipment, measuring devices, and methods used to
maintain and repair a variety of machines.
Ability to take the lead over other workers and provide them with necessary
advice, guidance, and instructions.
Ability to use precision measuring devices such as micrometers and calipers.
Ability to diagnose machinery malfunctions.
Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, and manufacturers'
specifications.
Ability to determine appropriate procedures for repairing a variety of machines.
Ability to remove and replace defective machinery components.
Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools.
Ability to take safety precautions in performing the work.
Ability to maintain essential records.
Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording
and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently
to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may
also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
