CHILD CARE SITE EVALUATOR
DEFINITION
Under supervision, performs the field and office work required to
conduct health and safety inspections of unregulated public and private
child care sites serving public assistance employment program
participants; interviews child care providers; provides basic
information regarding program requirements; does related work as
required.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Utilizing an assigned checklist, travels to and visits homes and
public child care provider facilities to conduct routine inspections of
the physical environment, general safety and sanitation, and fire
safety; conducts periodic reinspections.
Answers general inquiries and disseminates information on health
and safety standards required for compliance with program standards.
Interviews child care providers at public and private facilities
to monitor compliance with health and safety requirements.
Provides basic orientation to new home care providers and child
care facility staff to explain the role and responsibilities relevant
to the public assistance employment program components.
Organizes assigned work and develops effective work methods.
Prepares basic reports containing information obtained from
inspections and interviews.
Completes forms and other documents; forwards forms and documents
in accordance with established procedures.
Maintains essential records and files.
May be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency,
office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license
valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than
employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the
position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Ability to organize assigned work and develop effective work
methods.
Ability to provide basic orientation to child care providers.
Ability to conduct basic interviews and routine inspections of
child care sites and facilities utilizing an assigned checklist.
Ability to work harmoniously with associates, supervisors, and
other individuals in the course of assigned duties.
Ability to answer general inquiries and provide basic
information.
Ability to gather and compile basic information with which to
complete required paperwork and prepare reports.
Ability to maintain essential records and files.
Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or
manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or
related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in
English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American
Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of
communication.
