Job Specification

 SENIOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN INSTRUCTOR
 
 DEFINITION:

 Under direction, takes the lead over one or more Emergency Medical
 Technician Instructors providing instructions and demonstrations on
 the proper techniques and procedures of emergency medical treatment,
 instructing students in the use and care of emergency medical
 equipment and supplies; supervises the activities of students
 participating in emergency medical drills; does other related duties.

 EXAMPLES OF WORK:
 
 Takes the lead over other Emergency Medical Technician Instructors.

 Prepares lesson plans.

 Prepares reports.

 Oversees student testing and evaluation.

 Monitors attendance records.

 Oversees the use, care, and storage of equipment and supplies.

 Observes and evaluates job performance of instructional staff.

 Provides training and instruction in all phases of emergency
 medical care.

 Lectures and demonstrates Emergency Medical care techniques.

 Oversees activities of First Aid Squads engaged in simulated
 exercises.

 Instructs students in the use and care of various Emergency Medical
 Technician apparatus, in the use of ambulance and related vehicles,
 and in the methods of responding to emergency medical calls.

 Examines and periodically tests emergency medical apparatus and
 equipment.

 Gives lectures and presentations to special groups of the general
 public, shows films or slides, performs demonstrations as appropriate
 and responds to questions in order to provide for public awareness 
 and education.

 Keeps current of new materials or changes in the treatment of
 emergency victims and seeking out better ways of training 
 Emergency Medical Technicians.

 Prepares visual aid materials for instructional use.

 Maintains equipment and facilities at the training center.

 Prepares and maintains records and files.

 Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
 and/or manual recording and computerized information 
 systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

 REQUIREMENTS

 EXPERIENCE:

 Two (2) years of experience in providing instructions and
 demonstrations in emergency medical care techniques.

 CERTIFICATE

 Applicants must possess a valid Emergency Medical 
 Technician Instructor certificate valid in New Jersey.

 LICENSE:

 Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid
 in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than 
 employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties
 of the position.

 KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
 
 Knowledge of emergency medical care techniques and procedures.

 Knowledge of Emergency Medical Technician response methods 
 and the use of emergency vehicles.

 Knowledge of the use and care of emergency medical apparatus 
 and equipment.

 Knowledge of training techniques and instructional tools.

 Knowledge of the methods and materials used to develop 
 lesson plans.

 Knowledge of the methods used to evaluate student progress.

 Knowledge of rescue operations.

 Ability to provide instructions and demonstrate emergency 
 medical techniques and the use of emergency medical supplies 
 and equipment.

 Ability to prepare instructional materials.

 Ability to identify student progress and understanding of subject
 matter.

 Ability to prepare reports.

 Ability to maintain emergency medical apparatus and equipment.

 Ability to maintain records and files.

 Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual
 recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or
 related units.

 Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in 
 English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American 
 Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable 
 forms of communication.
