ELECTRICAL MECHANIC

A position in this category typically installs, troubleshoots and
repairs traffic signal equipment or systems, highway lighting systems
and wiring systems; monitors the use of materials, equipment, parts or

Repairs traffic signal equipment or systems and fire traffic signal
systems
Installs traffic signal equipment or systems and fire traffic signal
systems
Operates cherry picker, ladder, platform, or boom trucks
Operates volt or ohm meters
Operates a motor vehicle
Installs wiring systems, electrical components, and conduit systems
Repairs wiring systems, electrical components, and conduit systems
Troubleshoots problems with traffic signal equipment or systems and
fire traffic signal systems
Repairs highway lighting systems
Installs highway lighting systems
Troubleshoots problems with wiring systems and electrical components
Troubleshoots problems with highway lighting systems
Installs underground and overhead cables
Repairs underground and overhead cables
Tests wiring systems and electrical components
Repairs bridge lift, swing and warning mechanisms

Knowledge of procedures for operating volt or ohm meters

Ability to operate hand and power tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers,
pliers, wire strippers, drills, and tools associated with electrical
conduit and wiring work

Ability to troubleshoot problems with electrical components
Ability to repair overhead cables
Ability to repair underground cables
Ability to troubleshoot problems with traffic signal equipment or
systems
Ability to troubleshoot problems with highway lighting systems
Ability to perform precision soldering and desoldering for electronic
circuitry work
Ability to follow oral orders, directions or plans
Ability to operate cherry picker, ladder, platform or boom trucks
Ability to read various meters, gauges or dials
Ability to keep accurate records

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Completion of a vocational, technical or specialized training
program in electrical or electronic technology.
EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of experience in work involving the installation,
maintenance and repair of electrical or electronic components,
equipment or systems.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS
Appointees must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
and applicable endorsements for the class and type of vehicle.
NOTE: Appointees in the Department of Transportation will be
required to obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and
applicable endorsement(s) within six (6) months of appointment.
The inability of a Department of Transportation employee to attain
a CDL and necessary endorsements within six (6) months of hire
shall constitute grounds for removal.
SUBSTITUTION
Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute
one (1) year of additional experience.
