INVENTORY CONTROL SPECIALIST 1
DEFINITION
Under supervision of a supervisory official, reviews and analyzes
inventory systems, surveys document flow and control and provides
recommendations on inventory systems and practices; does other
related work.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Reviews department inventory practices and procedures and makes
suggestions for improvements.
Reviews the adequacy and effectiveness of complex current
operating inventory systems and makes recommendations concerning
performance standards, need for more analysis of shelf inventory,
and proper document control.
Verifies actual inventory of items against manual or electronic records.
Evaluates and advises a stock location of the need for any
preparation required prior to the pending inventory count, which
includes contracting specific locations, preparing records, and
coordinating inventory counts with data processing.
Maintains records of invoices, receipts, requisitions and other
inventory documents.
Reviews receiving reports, withdrawal, transfer and other
inventory documents for accuracy.
Compiles and records inventory information and prepare reports.
May prepare routine correspondence.
Reviews and analyzes errors; makes suggestions to reduce error
rates.
Makes pre-inventory preparations.
May make recommendations on the amount and types of items
to be kept in stock, based on an analysis of inventory records
and seasonal needs.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
and/or manual recording and computerized information systems
used by the agency, office or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE:
Four (4) years of experience having responsibility for implementing
an inventory control system, including processing, storing, shipping,
receiving and documentation, in a public or private agency.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in
New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee
mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the techniques used in the storage and distribution
of supplies and equipment.
Knowledge of inventory control methods and procedures.
Knowledge of recordkeeping procedures.
Ability to organize assigned work and develops effective work
methods.
Ability to review and evaluate inventory systems.
Ability to verify inventory counts.
Ability to compile information and maintain records.
Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or
manual recording and information systems used by the
agency, office or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand or communicate in
English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered
as acceptable forms of communication.
