SUPERVISOR OF GENERAL SERVICES DEFINITION:
Under direction, is responsible for performing the work involved in building security, safety, fleet maintenance and coordination, mail services, office supplies and equipment, building maintenance, and leasing office and storage space; may supervise a General Services Unit; does other related work.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Provides consultation and technical advice regarding general services.
Analyzes potential security problems and provides recommendations.
May identify functional space needs, and initiates space requests through appropriate channels.
May prepare layouts of office relocations and other moves.
May supervise office-moving and other relocation activities.
Supervises mail operations for the sorting, distribution, and delivery of mail; coordinates mail operations with the U.S. Post Office; supervises the maintenance of records of postage expenditures.
May conduct safety inspections and provide recommendations to increase safety measures.
Reviews vehicle mileage and accident reports, and oversees fleet maintenance and repairs.
May oversee the distribution of parking permits and coordination of parking activities.
May supervise the maintenance of non-expendable inventory including all furniture and office machines, surplus and obsolete equipment.
May maintain the organization's internal telephone directory.
May supervise the inventory, ordering and distribution of office supplies.
Provides recommendations for the alteration and/or repair of premises under lease.
Periodically inspects premises and takes measures to initiate alterations.
May provide information to assist in the preparation of the unit budget.
May coordinate the transfer, removal and repair of the organization's telephone services within the telephone company.
Supervises the work operations and/or functional programs of Units assigned and has responsibility for effectively recommending the hiring, firing, promoting, demoting and/or disciplining of employees.
Prepares reports containing findings, conclusions and recommendations.
Conducts special research assignments as required.
Supervises the establishment and maintenance of essential records and files.
May be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
NOTE: Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.
Seven (7) years of professional experience in coordinating general organizational support services, one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
OR
Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; and three (3) years of the above-mentioned professional experience, one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
NOTE: "Professional experience" refers to work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the authority to act according to one's own judgment and make accurate and informed decisions.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Ability to supervise a variety of general services functions including inventory, purchase and distribution of supplies, mail operations, and others essential for organizational support.
Ability to participate in the preparation of sketches and layouts of office relocations and other moves.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, leases and other documents.
Ability to provide technical assistance.
Ability to resolve complaints.
Ability to compile information for the budget.
Ability to inspect building premises and provides recommendations for alterations and repair. Ability to conduct special research assignments.
Ability to provide assignments and instructions to employees and supervise their performance.
Ability to supervise the establishment and maintenance of records and files.
Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
